They did all this with snow on the ground.
The idea of a high-speed chase sounds like all fun and games on the surface. This is because of how they’re portrayed in the movies. However, people deciding to evade a traffic stop this way is a massive blow to public safety. Two people tried this recently in West Virginia and ended up hitting a squad car and crashing into a river. Now, they both have hefty bonds.
Not only did they try to evade a traffic stop, but they also hit a squad car
According to WCHS TV, police officers in West Virginia were trying to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle on January 19th. As is often the case, the person behind the wheel refused to pull over. Because of this, multiple police officers were involved in the pursuit. Notably, this happened in Clay County while the roads were snowy.
The police on the scene saw the driver commit multiple violations as they pursued the traffic stop. This includes passing cars in no-pass zones and even tossing a gun from the vehicle. They also drove double the speed limit and took some insane turns. At some points, they “braked aggressively” and then hit a squad car. Then, they went over a 30-foot embankment and crashed onto the Elk River.
The responders were able to get the two people out of the river and make the traffic stop. However, they refused to comply with the officers. Still, they were taken to the hospital and then to jail. The driver has an $11,500 cash-only bond, and the passenger’s bond is $2,000. They both had outstanding warrants.
