Albuquerque, NM – A winter storm warning remains in effect until 11 pm MST Saturday for parts of New Mexico, including Raton Pass and Union County.
Heavy snowfall continues, with additional snowfall of up to an inch expected. According to the National Weather Service, hazardous conditions are expected on roads, especially bridges and overpasses. Visibility in areas with blowing snow can sometimes be less than one-quarter mile.
Temperatures in the area are dangerously cold, increasing the risk of frostbite and hypothermia. Officials have urged residents to stay indoors unless travel is absolutely necessary.
For those who must go outside, the National Weather Service recommends dressing in layers, covering exposed skin, and using a hat, scarf and gloves to conserve body heat. Motorists should use caution and avoid traveling on Interstate 25 if possible.
The storm is expected to subside by tonight with the situation improving on Sunday. Stay tuned to us for updates on weather and road conditions.
