EAST TENNESSEE – A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the mountains of East Tennessee, in effect from 1 a.m. Sunday through 7 a.m. Monday. Heavy snowfall and strong winds are expected to create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, snowfall will be 3 to 5 inches, with higher elevations seeing up to 10 inches. Winds could gust up to 35 mph, further reducing visibility. The storm will impact areas including Gatlinburg, Cades Cove and Unicoi.
Officials warned residents to be prepared for slippery roads, especially during the Monday morning commute. Those traveling should carry an emergency kit including a flashlight, food and water.
Meteorologists predict conditions will worsen Sunday night, with peak intensity early Monday. Residents are advised to avoid non-essential travel and keep an eye on weather updates. Road conditions can be checked by dialing 511.
With heavy snowfall and strong winds expected, residents are urged to remain vigilant and prepare for potential disruptions.
