Daniel Hyden Charged After Fatal Pickup Truck Crash Tragedy in Lower East Side on Independence Day
According to the Washington Times, in a tragic incident on the Fourth of July, Daniel Hyden, 44, from Monmouth, New Jersey, allegedly drove his pickup truck into a group of people celebrating in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The crash tragedy happened around 9 p.m., just before the start of the Macy’s fireworks show. Hyden was reportedly speeding and drove through an intersection, onto the sidewalk, and into Corlears Hook Park. Three people were killed: Lucille Pinkney, 59; her son Hernan Pinkney, 38; and Ana Morel, 43. Eight others were injured, including an 11-year-old boy and an 18-year-old woman, and were taken to hospitals.

Daniel Hyden Held Without Bail After Alleged Fourth of July Crash Tragedy in Manhattan
Hyden was brought to court and charged with several crimes, including aggravated vehicular homicide, assault, and manslaughter, as well as driving while drunk. He was ordered to stay in jail without bail. Tim Pruitt, Hyden’s lawyer from the Legal Aid Society, said his client is presumed innocent and deserves a fair defense. Hyden’s next court date is July 10. This sad event has darkened the holiday, leaving the community grieving and hoping for the recovery of the injured.
