According to an article in CBS News, Colorado is considering using Medicaid funds to cover food and housing expenses, not just healthcare, following new permissions from the Biden administration. Jake Williams from Healthier Colorado highlights that your living conditions and diet greatly influence your health, making it sensible to utilize a Medicaid waiver for these needs.

Project Angel Heart, a group that gives free meals to sick people, could get more help from this change. They have volunteers who make and deliver meals to nearly 5,000 people with illnesses like cancer and heart problems. Nic Soucy from Project Angel Heart says good food helps people stay healthy and out of the hospital, saving money for everyone.

Colorado Lawmakers Push for Medicaid Waiver to Fund Healthy Food and Housing Assistance

Furthermore, a new law in Colorado, supported by several state lawmakers, wants to use Medicaid for healthy food and housing. This law asks the Colorado Office of Healthcare Policy and Financing to apply for the Medicaid waiver. State Rep. Kyle Brown says this will bring in more federal money and make better use of state funds. If approved, more people could get the help they need, keeping them out of hospitals and saving money for taxpayers.
