Humanitarian Crisis Unfolds
Public Opinion Divided
According to FOX News in El Salvador, President Nayib Bukele’s tough stance against gangs has caused serious problems says Humanitarian Legal Relief. Over the past two years human rights victims are 241 people have died in prisons with reports describing terrible conditions like torture. Despite this human rights violation many Salvadorans still support Bukele because crime rates have fallen a lot since he started arresting people making the country safer.

Calls for Justice Intensify
In March 2022 Bukele made a special rule to balancing security or human right to fight gangs leading to the arrest of over 80,000 people which is more than 1% of El Salvador’s population. But Humanitarian Legal Relief says many of these people are innocent and most of those who died weren’t even in gangs. The victims come from all walks of life like street vendors, taxi drivers, and religious leaders showing that the government’s actions affect everyone. Criticism is growing and people want the government to take responsibility for what’s happened. Humanitarian Legal Relief wants investigations into the deaths and disappearances in prisons saying the government violated human rights in the name of safety. As El Salvador deals with the fallout from Bukele’s decisions it’s important to find out the truth and make things right to build a fairer society.
