If this deadline is not met, the government will forfeit the $909 median refund that is still awaiting claims. Approximately 940,000 people nationwide owe roughly $1 billion in total, with a $932 median return. Low- and moderate-income individuals, such as students and part-time jobs, are the main beneficiaries of these refunds because they may have neglected to file their returns because of their restricted income status.
