This legislation passed with a resounding 98-20 vote seeks to extend Medicaid coverage to individuals earning up to 138% of the federal poverty level provided they meet certain work-related criteria. Spearheaded by Mississippi House Medicaid Committee Chairwoman Missy McGee (R) proponents argue that this initiative known as the Healthy Mississippi Works plan is designed to support working individuals in accessing vital healthcare services.

Reeves voicing concerns over what he perceives as a replication of Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion particularly critiques the absence of what he deems as substantial work requirements.
