A Milam County man, Jamarr Zamora, faces multiple charges of child sexual assault and has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. The case, initially charged in 2020, faced delays due to the pandemic but gained priority status, resulting in a recent trial where Zamora entered an ‘open’ plea. This plea meant an admission of guilt without a predefined agreement for a reduced sentence.
Child Exploitation via Social Media
Despite the trial’s pandemic-induced pause, Jamarr Zamora faced swift justice as he received the maximum sentence of 20 years for each charge, to be served concurrently. The gravity of the case prompted Brian Price, the first assistant district attorney, to underscore the significance of addressing child sexual assault cases with special attention.
Zamora’s modus operandi involved exploiting vulnerabilities on social media platforms to connect with his victims, eventually leading to in-person meetings. Advocates, such as Unbound Now, emphasize the critical need for parents to engage with their children in online activities. The group highlights the risks associated with social media apps, noting their role in facilitating encounters between children and predators.
The sentencing brought emotional closure for the victims and their families, as emphasized by Brian Price. His connection to the case, having four children of his own, underscores the emotional weight these situations carry. Price believes that Zamora’s sentencing sends a strong message in Milam County, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach towards those who harm children.
