According to Southwest Journal, Washington, DC, boasts a mix of neighborhoods, each with its own vibe. While some are cool and fancy, others face challenges. Using data, we’ll pinpoint areas that may need improvement. Out of 34 neighborhoods, we’ve identified those standing out—both positively and not-so-great—in the diverse landscape of Washington.

 Dangerous Places in Washington

In DC, crime rates vary across neighborhoods. Brentwood, with 28,660 residents, has 91% higher crime than the national average, but surprisingly, it decreased by 16% last year. Deanwood, with 29,798 people, faces 113% more crime, yet also saw a 16% reduction. Anacostia, home to 117,488, has crime rates 104% higher but experienced a 16% drop. Stadium-Armory, housing 21,142, deals with 140% more crime but saw a 16% decrease. South West, with 11,100 residents, is doing better with 25% less crime than the national average. Downtown, hosting 8,132, has 50% higher crime, especially late hours. Fort Totten-Upper Northeast, home to 24,123, has 52% more crime but is safer than half of US cities. Catholic University-Brookland, with 57,481, faces 50% more crime but emphasizes community safety. Capitol Hill, historic and home to 55,592, has 147% higher crime, with a 1 in 18 chance of being a victim. Columbia Heights, diverse with 34,835, tackles 112% more crime but is safer than nearly a third of DC cities.
