Texans Eligible for Tax-Exempt $500 Monthly Payments through Uplift Harris Program
The Uplift Harris program, an innovative project that would provide low-income households with millions in assistance, is scheduled to debut in Harris, Texas in 2024. The American Rescue Act provided $20.5 million for the program’s approval in the summer.
The program’s goal is to support 1,928 low-income households that qualify by giving them $500 monthly payments for 18 months. A person must meet specific requirements to be eligible for these benefits, such as being over the age of 18 and earning at least 200% of the federal poverty line.
Moreover, to be eligible for these payments, individuals must reside in the 10 ZIP codes with the lowest income levels in the county. Notably, only one qualified person per household can receive these monthly payments. The key emphasis of the program is to provide financial assistance without restrictions on how the $500 checks are utilized. Additionally, these payments are considered tax-exempt, offering further economic relief to the program’s participants.
