According to NTD News, Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a short New Year’s speech, talking about how Russians are united and praising their strength. He spoke about the tough year and thanked the soldiers involved in the war in Ukraine, calling them heroes. Putin emphasized that Russia will not give up and that no force can divide the country.

Trouble Shadows New Year in Russia

The New Year in Russia wasn’t as joyful because of recent events. A deadly shelling in Belgorod left 24 people dead and many injured. This made celebrations quieter in Moscow, with canceled fireworks and concerts. Deputy Secretary Dmitry Medvedev also spoke, asking for unity and calling to defeat what he called “neo-fascism” in the coming year.

Putin’s Plans for 2024 and Challenges Ahead

Looking ahead, Putin aims to be re-elected in March, and he could stay in power until 2036. Despite ongoing tensions and the war in Ukraine, he believes Western support might fade. Putin faces both local and global challenges as he navigates a changing political landscape, seeking to maintain control and influence.
