According to Southwest Journal, New Mexico has risks that can’t be seen, like UFO reports and very hot weather. We looked at FBI statistics for 22 towns and found shockingly high crime rates that make the state the second most dangerous in the U.S. The rates of violent and property crime are higher than the national average, and Gallup is the most dangerous place on the list. Bigger towns like Albuquerque and Santa Fe are being affected, which makes the need for help even more clear. Check out our list to learn about New Mexico’s most dangerous places.

1. Los Lunas

Los Lunas, 19 miles outside Albuquerque and developing rapidly, is now one of the state’s most hazardous locations, up one rank from last year. The Luna family established the city, which has 1 in 24 property offenses and 1 in 77 major crimes. These stats are alarming, but Los Lunas is one of New Mexico’s richest communities, so its affluent citizens should take heed. The city has 15,929 residents and ranks seventh in state crime. It’s challenging to keep people safe in a booming community.

2. Roswell

It is notable for the 1947 Roswell UFO sighting. The neighborhood is one of the worst in the state this year. Roswell, the county seat of Chaves County and Eastern New Mexico University, had 1,362 thefts. An annual increase of four points made the city one of New Mexico’s most hazardous. Roswell has 47,533 people and Alien believers. Everyone planning a move should research safety for their family, business, and themselves.

3. Clovis

Clovis is one of New Mexico’s most diversified and deadly communities. The city is near Texas and named after former residents. The crime rate is high. Despite being a popular singles destination, Clovis has the most rapes and homicides in the state. The city has fallen six ranks on the most dangerous list since last year, which is encouraging. Clovis, a 38,734-person city in the southwest US, has a nice blend of diversity and safety.

4. Artesia

Artesia has the ninth-most dangerous property crimes in New Mexico, so be cautious on Main Street. It’s down seven points from last year, but its 12,366 residents face terrible odds: 1 in 32 property crimes and 1 in 190 major crimes. Between Roswell and Carlsbad is Artesia. The name comes from the Artesian springs. Despite these terrifying figures, the community is one of New Mexico’s nicest places to live, showing how convoluted reality is.

5. Las Cruces

Las Cruces, New Mexico’s second-largest city and home to New Mexico State University, has a rising crime rate. The 103,520 people have a 1 in 201 probability of committing a major crime and 1 in 27 of committing a property crime. Las Cruces, a booming community that draws women, is one of the most costly in New Mexico. An explanation may explain the city’s seven-place spike in crime last year. This shifting village asks residents to be cautious and secure their belongings.

6. Taos

Taos, a creative hotspot in northern New Mexico’s Sangre de Cristos Mountains, has safety difficulties. The 5,963-person municipality has a 1 in 18 property crime rate. The crime rate dropped three positions from last year, which is positive. Taos is diversified yet the eighth most dangerous city in New Mexico in 2022. Taos is one of the worst locations to live in the state despite its pure air and gorgeous light. This illustrates how the municipality combines beauty and safety.

When Bernalillo rises 10 points to become New Mexico’s most hazardous town in 2022, its evil side surfaces. In the Sandia Mountains, near the Rio Grande. The picturesque environment and mounting safety concerns of this New Mexico hamlet are challenges.

8. Deming

Deming was christened “New Chicago” because of its railroad crossing, and he planned to make it prosperous. Though it hasn’t developed as rapidly as projected, the city has the same crime rate as Chicago. Deming was a terrible location to live in New Mexico for years. It has one in 19 property offenses and is the fourth most serious. The city will have 14,011 residents in 2022, with a high crime rate, making it one of New Mexico’s most hazardous. Combining past aspirations with current reality reveals Deming’s people’s issues.

9. Gallup

Since “Route 66,” Gallup has become less pleasant to live in. Despite its nostalgia, Gallup will be New Mexico’s most unsafe city in 2022 due to its second-highest severe crime rate and highest property crime rate. The city had 21,935 property offenses and 437 violent crimes, largely serious. This startling statistic makes Gallup one of the worst locations to live in the state. While Gallup battles its new reputation for safety, Route 66 travelers should be vigilant.

10. Belen

Bethlehem, pronounced Belen in Spanish, is not calm. With just 7,094 residents, the city has 188% higher crime than the country.
