Latest Selzer Survey Highlights Growing Popularity Ahead of Iowa Caucus
The newest Selzer survey, released one month before the Jan. 15 first-in-the-nation caucus, shows that Donald Trump is in control and is gaining popularity. December poll results vs. mid-October:
- Donald Trump: 51% (Dec. 2-7), 43% (Oct. 22-26), +8 points.
- Ron DeSantis: 19%, 16%, +3.
- Nikki Haley: 16%, 16% —
- Vivek Ramaswamy: 5%, 4%, +1
- Chris Christie: 4%, 4%, —
Selzer & Co. president J. Ann Selzer said, “The field may have shrunk, but it may have made Donald Trump even stronger. His leadership is now dominant. Fewer candidates don’t help Ron DeSantis or Nikki Haley.”

Past Predictions and Present Possibilities
Even though it can’t tell you what will happen, the final Iowa Poll has always kept track of the race. It was right about Barack Obama’s rise in 2008 and about Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders’s rise in 2016. After the October poll, Nikki Haley seemed to be getting more support, which pointed to a Trump-Haley race.
If Ron DeSantis comes in second in Iowa, it could change the story and make Trump’s chances of getting the nod better.
