The former U.S. Border Patrol is currently facing charges for allegedly requesting payment to allow a migrant to remain free in the U.S.
Initial Reports from the Investigators
According to reports from CBS News, investigators have indicated that Ferdinand Castillo, a former Border Patrol agent, has drawn their attention due to having multiple interactions with an unidentified migrant in the month of June.
As per the findings of federal investigators, Castillo approached a migrant and extended an offer for papers. The migrant, having an impression that the papers were related to immigration, accepted the offer. Moreover, the victim further revealed to the officials that the papers would allow the migrants to reside freely in the United States.
Former Border Patrol Agent Faces Several Charges
In recent news from KGNS, the former Border Patrol agent was charged by the grand jury with three counts of wire fraud, bribery, and migrant smuggling following his arrest in June for asking $5,000 bribe from a migrant that would allow them to remain free in the United States.
The migrant also told the investigators that Castillo stole $500 from them. However, Castillo denied stealing the five hundred dollars but admitted to bribery, forging signatures, and carrying false documents to meet up with the migrant.
