Capital One credit card holders will get payments from a $16 million settlement for fees on bounced transactions from 2015 to 2022, aiming to resolve issues without admitting fault.

Capital One Settles $16 Million Lawsuit Over Unlawful Bounced Transaction Fees

According to the article in The US Sun, Capital One credit card holders, both past and present, are set to receive payments from a $16 million settlement. The lawsuit alleged that Capital One unlawfully charged fees on bounced transactions, known as “representing fees,” which should have been refunded when payments were re-submitted. These fees affected checks and ACH payments and were said to violate the company’s account terms.

The settlement covers fees paid between September 1, 2015, and January 12, 2022. Those eligible for compensation do not need to apply; payments will be automatically distributed based on how much each person was affected. Although Capital One denies wrongdoing by settling, this agreement aims to resolve the issue and avoid more legal battles.
